Ramaphosa saddened by EC floods, vows to help victims

President Cyril Ramaphosa has assured residents government will be assisting everyone affected by the deadly floods in the Eastern Cape.

The natural disaster claimed the lives of 10 people.
Thousands have been left homeless and are currently in community halls.
Some of the worst hit areas include Gqeberha and Baffalo City.
The floods also caused extensive damage to infrastructure.
Ramaphosa said the cost of the damage is estimated to R6 billion.
He visited the affected residents in Kariega on Friday where he expressed his sorrow.
"I know that the floods caused a lot of damage in this place - now the government has to come and help, and I can tell you, that the government is going to come, and the government is going to help,"
"I was really saddened by the news - and I told myself: I have to come and see what happened here for myself. I've heard and seen, that many people lost their homes,
"We're sorry that we didn't bring help quickly - but we will bring it: and within 30 days, we will have provided temporary housing for those who have lost their houses within a period of 30 days. In the meantime, we will have accommodation for those who have been displaced,"
Ramaphosa has also thanked the humanitarian relief organization, Gift of the Givers, for its swift response to the flooding disaster.
