Ramaphosa to speak at World Aids Day event
South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to make a speech at an event commemorating World Aids Day on Tuesday, the Presidency said.
Ramaphosa would speak to residents living in the the Ugu District in KwaZulu-Natal, near Port Shepstone, on World Aids Day, urging them to rise, act and protect themselves and others from Aids.
Ahead of World Aids Day, Ramaphosa urged all South Africans to heed the call to turn the tide against Aids and ensure an Aids-free generation.
“As a nation, we must rise to this challenge, determined and committed and confident that we can succeed, and as a people, and as individuals, we must act to inform, to support and to encourage. No action is too small. No contribution is wasted.”
Other speakers scheduled to join Ramaphosa at the event include KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu and the Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi.
Ramaphosa added that the theme for this year’s World Aids Day was apt: “We must protect ourselves and those who are nearest to us. We must protect the vulnerable. We must combat stigma and create an environment in which all can feel safe and comfortable to test and be treated. The end of HIV as a public health threat is in sight.”
