Ramaphosa surprised by Magashule's court bid, ‘not losing sleep’ over ANC dynamics

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the decision by African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule to take the party to court is unprecedented.

Magashule is challenging his suspension by the ANC's national executive committee (NEC) over corruption charges laid against him.

"For a secretary-general to decide to take his own organisation to court and question the constitutionality of that very constitution he's been implementing and adhering to, is a big surprise," Ramaphosa said.

"This is unprecendeted, but we obviously need to go through that.

"The matter is now sub judice and we must let the process run its full course."

Ramaphosa was speaking to the media after handing over title deeds to 30 black farmers in Tafelkop in Limpopo on Saturday as part of the government's land programme.

The Magashule matter has led to divisions in the ANC.

Asked about issues of unity in the governing party, Ramaphosa said he was not losing sleep.

"The ANC like any other party has its own dynamics and we are dealing with those dynamics," said Ramaphosa.

"There are various perspectives in the ANC and we are doing everything we can to unite the organisation and to increase cohesion.

"I am confident that we will be able to create cohesion and unity in the ANC and our leadership is determined to restore the glory of this organisation.

"I am not having sleepless nights about this matter - the ANC is alive and the ANC continues to lead."
