Ramaphosa vows ‘heightened accountability’ amid Nsfas graft claims
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed increased accountability in the government, including at the troubled National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
His remarks come amid corruption allegations by the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) against Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, SACP and NSFAS board chairperson Ernest Khosa.
Outa accused the minister and Khosa of receiving kickbacks from companies doing business with the Nsfas.
On Thursday, the scheme confirmed that Khosa has decided to take a leave of absence from work while an independent law firm is probing the allegations.
Ramaphosa spoke on the sidelines of an ANC Youth League event in Mbombela ahead of the January 8 Statement this weekend.
"Nsfas encountered a number of challenges that are being addressed, and various allegations are a matter of concern and are being looked at,” the president said.
“There shall be processes, moving forward in every aspect of government, we are going to heighten accountability."
