Ramaphosa vows more measures to curb femicide, GBV

President Cyril Ramaphosa says it is time the country takes a firm stance against the perpetrators of gender-based violence.

Ramaphosa was speaking in Tshwane after his visit to the family of taxi driver Jabu Baloyi, who was killed two weeks ago.
Baloyi’s death at the hands of alleged drug dealers led to several days of protests in the Pretoria CBD.
Ramaphosa said the government supports the women who marched to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in Sandton to protest against gender-based violence and femicide.
Hundreds of women shut down the Sandton CBD on Friday.
The president gave an assurance that the government will announce a new plan to curb femicide in the coming weeks.
"Even in this community, there have been young people who've been killed by men. Men who say they love them have killed those women and it is now about time that our whole country should take a firm stance.
"We will be announcing a number of other measures in the coming week about the interventions that we believe that all of should make."
