Ramaphosa walks to boost township economy
Updated | By Neo Motloung
President Cyril Ramaphosa invited delegates from the
inaugural Investment Conference along to join him on his Thuma Mina walk along
Vilakazi Street in Soweto on Saturday morning.
Vilakazi Street is the home of the late struggle icon and father of the nation, former president Nelson Mandela.
The street was also home to Archbishop Desmond Tutu and is world renowned as the only street in the world to have housed two Nobel Peace laureates.
Ramaphosa hopes the fun walk in Soweto would encourage investment in the township economy.
"We brought investors here to showcase what the townships are like," says Ramaphosa.
He adds the policy of focusing on township economy is part of the stimulus package to grow the economy of the country.
The three days Investment Conference in Sandton has seen a combined investment of nearly R290 billion for the country.
