Ramaphosa congratulates Zimbabwe on elections, no mention of Mnangagwa
The government has called on all political groups in Zimbabwe to resolve their electoral disputes peacefully.
At the same time, President Cyril Ramaphosa's office has congratulated our northern neighbour for organising last week's polls, which have since been declared a sham by the main opposition party.
International observers also said the elections fell short of democratic standards.
Zimbabweans voted on Wednesday and Thursday for a president and new parliament in polling marred by delays and accusations of rigging.
The electoral commission declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa the outright winner.
"South Africa is conscious that these elections took place under a difficult economic environment due to the burdening sanctions which the people of Zimbabwe continue to unjustly endure," said Ramapahosa's spokesperson Vincent Magwenya.
"We call on all the parties in Zimbabwe to work in unison in sustaining peace and work towards development and shared prosperity in the country."
