Ramaphosa's state capture appearance won't be easy, says Analyst

President Cyril Ramaphosa will have to account for his tenure as deputy president of both the country and the African National Congress (ANC) when the state was allegedly captured, says political analyst Ralph Mathekga.
The president is scheduled to appear at the commission next month .
"He is an insider within the ANC brought into politics actually by former president Jacob Zuma's allies at the time. If you look at it, there is no way that there will be silence regarding his understanding and why he didn't say anything about state capture. It's not going to be an easy appearance for him," says Mathekga.

But he says Ramaphosa's appearance will give the commission credibility.
"If you look at the political attacks on the commission the President going there will give the commission more credibility and will demonstrate that he is not above the law. It sets a good example and undermines President Zuma's decision not to cooperate with the commission.”
