Ramokgopa: Eskom making progress in reducing unplanned outages
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa maintains Eskom is making significant progress in reducing the number of unplanned outages.
"We want to address the issues of the UCLF. We really want to bring it down to sub 14 000 consistently so that at any given time, we can have more than 14 000 megawatts that are out of circulation because that undermines the rate at which we are able to keep the lights on. So we are making progress that we desire."
Speaking in Pretoria on the Energy Action Plan on Tuesday, Ramokgopa said additional units would be coming online over the next three months..,
"When we bring the three units at Kusile, that is a good injection in relation to available capacity and, like I indicated the last time, we are expecting to fire unit five in December this year, that is another 700 megawatts.”
South Africans were spared rolling blackouts for nearly two full days over the long weekend before the power utility had to prematurely resume load shedding on Sunday evening after three units failed.
