Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Rand Water says their technicians have completed the 58-hour planned maintenance work on its infrastructure.
The utility began the shutdown on Tuesday to improve its infrastructure and was scheduled to complete the work on Friday.
Spokesperson Makenosi Maroo said although the work is completed the water reticulation will take some time to recover.
"The 58-hour planned maintenance project that commenced on Tuesday has been successfully completed. Rand Water is now recharging and filling up the system.
"Customers are further notified that, since the reservoirs have run empty in some areas, the recovery of high lying areas can take several days to be fully restore," she said.
"Rand Water has a proactive maintenance and asset management programme that requires the completion of critical renewal and maintenance projects at regular intervals."
Johannesburg Water will continue to provide water tankers to affected areas until the reservoirs are back to normal.
