Rand Water to impose water restrictions in Gauteng
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Rand Water has begun to impose water restrictions in Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni on Friday.

Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale says supply has been throttled by 25%.
This was due to higher consumption, which led to water levels dipping.

"We are trying to avoid a situation where the network and those of the municipality's run out of water. Rand Water, as a matter of principle, prefers to have a water in our network between 60 and 80%."
Mohale says municipalities will have to decide whether or not they want to throttle supply even further.
"The municipalities will have to decide and see what they can do. But we informed that due higher than normal consumption of water, to preserve water in our system, we have to reduce the flow into our system, but it's up to them."
