Rand Water says planned maintenance of its H5 pipeline over the weekend could lead to dry taps in parts of the City of Ekurhuleni.

Spokesperson, Makenosi Maroo says they need to undertake a tie-in of a new portion of the H5 pipeline to the existing H5 pipeline.

"The maintenance project is planned for 40 hours," says Maroo, noting that it started on Friday evening and will be completed only on Sunday at 12 noon.

While some residents will experience water supply shortages during the maintenance project, Maroo says Rand Water formally informed customers three weeks in advance of their plans.

"The maintenance project forms part of Rand Water's augmentation strategy to refurbish and upgrade its infrastructure to ensure future sustainability," says Maroo.

"Planned maintenance is necessary to ensure continuous future provision of water to our customers. We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by the implementation of the maintenance project. We urge all consumers to continue using water sparingly."
