Rand Water on schedule with pipe repair project
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
Rand Water’s scheduled maintenance of one of its pipelines in Gauteng remains on track.
The work began on Friday as technicians removed some of the old infrastructure.
Rand Water says the work has so far not affected the water supply.
Executive director Eddie Singo says the welding of the new pipeline should be complete by Monday morning.
“We are currently welding the existing pipeline with a new pipeline which is the process that takes a little bit longer and needs to be done carefully but we plan to be done at least by tomorrow morning 1 am.”
Singo said if not replaced, the pipeline would have started leaking in two years’ time.1
“On an annual basis we do what we call condition assessment on our infrastructure which five years ago reveal that the condition on this pipeline was beginning to deteriorate.
