In his inaugural speech, Williams urged members in the council to work together to create an efficient administration.

“As elected councillors we all have an individual part to play and a collective responsibility as members of political parties to ensure that the Tshwane council delivers on its mandate to the residents of our city.

“In order for Tshwane to function optimally we need to create an environment in the chamber that is conducive towards enhancing efficiency and effectiveness within the administration.”

Williams acknowledged that there will be differences at times but says it should be embraced.

“There will most certainly be occasions when we will debate and differ. That is to be expected in any competitive democratic environment and we should embrace these occasions to interrogate and scrutinize political decisions.”

He added that all council members irrespective of their political party to always put the residents above the politics.

“Regardless of our political affiliations it is critically important that we place the interests of our residents first and foremost and strive to ensure that we adhere to the highest level of excellence in the work that we do in the city.”
