Eleven-year-old Daisy from East London wrote a heart-warming letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa, asking him if girls can be president.

Ramaphosa responded in kind, saying girls are allowed to be anything they want to be - even presidents.

Daisy also asked Ramaphosa if he knew the former president Nelson Mandela, why he doesn't make the world a better place if he has the power to do so and how many people needed to vote for him to win the election.

"Are you kind to children? How hard is it to rule? Where do you live in Johannesburg?" Daisy questioned.

Ramaphosa responded by saying he appreciates Daisy's confidence in him.

"It means a lot to me that you like my work as President; because as I am sure you can imagine it is not an easy job. I often have to make really difficult decisions, and sometimes people are pleased with the decisions I make but other people are at times not so happy. That is to be expected that people should have different views on various matters as we live in a democracy, which allows everyone to have the right to have their own options and freedom of speech," the president wrote.

Ramaphosa also told Daisy that he hopes to meet her the next time he is in the Eastern Cape.

"I would be honoured if, after school on the day, you would be able to meet me when I am in your home town.

"I am trying my best to make South Africa a better place for our children and our children's children – and I am so pleased I can count on you to help me.”
