Rebuilding KZN infrastructure will cost over R500m: MTN
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
MTN says plans to rebuild and restore what was damaged or destroyed in the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal are going to cost more than R500 million.
The telecommunications giant set aside R10 million to rebuild and replenish stock at over 1 000 spaza shops.
The network provider's Jacqui O’Sullivan says they'll be replacing stolen and vandalised infrastructure, including batteries and copper cables.
She says R354 million will go towards upgrading and expanding network infrastructure in the province.
"When we something like the civil unrest on the scale that we saw it really had a massive impact across the board. So our focus is making sure that we can directly and immediately assist those communities that were directly impacted to the spaza shops to make sure that they can get back to their feet.

"But the larger investment is to make sure we can continue serving that KZN economy because when the economy is growing the country is stable, job creation happens and we want to be a part of delivering all of that success to South Africa."
