Limpopo Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, will on Tuesday lead the repatriation process of the remains of the 45 people killed in a bus crash over Easter.
The crash on the R518 Mmamatlakala road in Mokopane claimed the lives of 45 Botswana citizens.
The 45 worshippers from Botswana died while on their way to St Engenas Zion Cristian Church (ZCC) for an Easter pilgrimage to Moria outside Polokwane when their bus plunged off the bridge and caught fire.
An eight-year-old was the sole survivor.
A dedicated multidisciplinary team, including the police's victim identification unit, Biology Section of the Forensic Science Laboratory Unit, Forensic Pathology Services, and their Botswana counterparts, worked to recover and positively identify the human remains through the DNA process,” said the MEC's spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha.
“It has been a long, tiring, and equally traumatising journey to the team. However, we are comforted by the fact that the families will finally find closure."
Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi and President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the scene of the crash in mid-April.
