Remembering a warrior: condolences pour in on King Zwelithini's passing

King Zwelinthini died in hospital on Friday at the age of 72.

Condolences have been pouring in following the news that isiZulu King Goodwill Zwelinthini has passed away with many remembering him as a warrior. 

Zwelinthini died in hospital at the age of 72. 

Political analyst, Levy Nldou said his passing marked a great loss to the country as a whole. 

"King Zwelinthini represented that group of people that actually preserved our culture and also ensuring that the Zulu nation is actually always united behind culture, traditions, and their customs," said Ndou. 

The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) Secretary-General, Zolani Mkhiva says the King's passing was socking.

"This news is devastating," he says, adding: "he embodied the true character of the institution of traditional leadership and royalty in Arica."

"He was a servant of his people; He was a leader who was exemplary among all of us," he added. 

Bantu Holomisa, leader of the United Democratic Movement, (UDM) says Zwelinthini played a key role in educating the Zulu nation about critical health matters. 

"As the custodian of the Zulu traditions and customs, he specifically played a critical role in educating the Zulu nation during the height of the HIV/Aids pandemic in South Africa," he said.

He added that the king was also a well-known environmentalist.

The DA's Zwakele Mncwango says the king stood for unity for all nations:

"We will remember him by making sure all racial groups...will be recognised," said Mncwango. 

IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa says Zwelithini will be remembered for his work in fighting against poverty. 

"He will also be remembered for his role in reviving the culture that restored dignity to the Zulu people, he added. 

Scores of people expressed their condolences on social media.
