Removal of top cop part of restructuring: Police
Updated | By Staff Writer
The removal of Western Cape acting head of crime intelligence Brigadier Mzwandile Tiyo is part of the restructuring of the crime intelligence service, police said on Friday.

"The streamlining process started last year. Various posts in the unit have also been advertised," said Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale.
Tiyo is reportedly a complainant in a case of defeating the ends of justice against national police commissioner Riah Phiyega.
Phiyega is accused of alerting Western Cape police commissioner Lt-Gen Arno Lamoer about an investigation into his alleged links with a businessman and an alleged drug dealer.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate started probing the matter in October.
At the time, Phiyega said it was "interesting" that the allegations against her had surfaced from "faceless people" shortly after her decision to put former acting crime intelligence boss Maj-Gen Chris Ngcobo on special leave.
"Although I do not expect my colleagues to behave in such an underhanded manner whereby they concoct a story and open a case against me, it however comes as no surprise given some of the mischievous activities conducted by crime intelligence in the past," she said.
Phiyega announced the restructuring of crime intelligence on Thursday.
She said that after careful consideration of the combined functioning of the divisional crime intelligence and protection and security services (CIPS), she had decided to change and purify the structure.
In 2013, the structure was separated into two divisions.
After consultation with the employees affected and organised labour, employees who were previously with the protection and security services and who moved to crime intelligence as part of the CIPS formation, had resumed their original positions in protection and security services, she said.
