Reserve Bank to make repo rate announcement
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
We'll know whether interest rates will go up or be kept where they are today.
Reserve Bank Governor, Lesetja Kganyago, will announce the Monetary Policy Committee's decision in Pretoria.
In September, rates were left unchanged - with Kganyago saying although our economy remained weak, inflation outlook at that time was better than in July.
Efficient Group Economist Francois Stofberg expects the repo rate to remain unchanged.
"Our economy is really in a bit of dire straits. Revisions have been made downward, and even more downwards - which really makes it difficult to increase interest rates any further because the consumer rates just can't bear it. So for that reason, even though inflation is out of its barrier, we do not believe that the Reserve Bank will increase interest rates," he says.
