Restricting lockdown to specific regions ‘clever’, says economist

Senior economist at Efficient Group Dr Francois Stofberg says limiting the lockdown to specific regions in the country was a clever move.

On Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared the Nelson Mandela Bay as a hotspot due to rising levels of Covid-19.

 

President Ramaphosa further imposed new restrictions on the metro.

Stofberg says the new regulations imposed on the metro will negate the negative impact of shutting down the entire economy.

 

“It’s very clever to try and keep it to a specific region. The region or environment will be negatively impacted. Nelson Mandela Bay will experience a protracted or a continuous limit on their economic activity."
