Suspects sought after burning of Vuwani school

A total of 143 schools were damaged in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal when parts of the two provinces experienced a wave of violence and looting.

At least 139 of these were schools vandalised in KwaZulu-Natal, while the remaining four were in Gauteng.

Acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni told media on Wednesday that equipment and food meant for the school nutrition programme was also stolen from some of the schools.

“The Department of Health is finalising the assessment report on the extent of impact of the recent violent protests in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal on the vaccination rollout programme and general access to health services.

“Acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi will present a comprehensive update on Friday during their weekly health updates.”

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga is expected to brief the nation on Sunday on the sector’s preparations.
