Revised wage offer tabled, as bus strike drags on
Updated | By Shadley Nash
Embattled bus commuters will have to wait until at least
Wednesday to know whether striking bus drivers have accepted a revised wage
offer.
The SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) says it, and other unions will be consulting their members on Monday on the new offer tabled at the weekend.
Satawu spokesperson, Zanela Sabela, says they hope that by Wednesday they will know what is happening with regard to the month-long strike.
"All the other issues including the dual driver, the night shift hours, insourcing of workers like cleaners into the bargaining council will be referred to a task team that will run under observation of the CCMA so that it delivers on its mandate and does not become a talk shop," says Sabela.
She says the bargaining council and the CCMA have proposed an offer of 8.75 percent for the first year and 8.25 percent for the second.
Drivers initially tabled a wage demand of 12 percent.
Sabela says the revised offer will be backdated to April 1.
