Right2Know protests at SABC
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The Right2Know campaign has demanded the SABC reverse a decision to ban the broadcast of violent protest action and that the public broadcaster’s COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng be removed from his position.
The organisation protested at the broadcaster’s head office in Auckland Park on Monday morning.
The Right2Know campaign was holding similar protests in Cape Town and Durban.
It said the SABC's actions were reminiscent of decisions taken under Afrikaner Nationalist rule
Right2Know's Micah Reddy said the SABC has a duty to deliver news that is free, fair and impartial.
"This public broadcaster, which is being turned into a PR firm for Luthuli House, does not want us to know it is covering up [for] a corrupt elite that is the reason we have constant protests in this country that sometimes happen to turn violent," Reddy said.
