RISE Mzansi wants SONA to focus on economy, jobs
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
RISE Mzansi has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to outline a vision of how the government plans to grow the economy on Thursday.

Ramaphosa will deliver his State of the Nation Address in Cape Town on Thursday evening.
This will be the first State of the Nation address under the Government of National Unity.
RISE Mzansi says they want Ramaphosa to assert his powers as president and hold ministers and senior public servants on a short leash regarding performance and delivery.
The party also implored the government and businesses to grow the economy by at least 5% to tackle inequality, unemployment and poverty.
It also expects Ramaphosa to set targets for eliminating financial wastage and to allocate more resources to intelligence gathering in the fight against violent and organised crime.
"President Cyril Ramaphosa needs to show that he is in charge and can practice leadership that gets government working in coordination and as a focused unit with the people of South Africa,” said Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi
"RISE Mzansi, therefore, calls on the president, in his SONA, to clearly outline and commit to these four broad, but all-encompassing, priority areas, especially in light of cabinet’s recently adopted Medium-Term Development Plan.”
Zibi also called for a review of the effectiveness of the current South African Defence Force leadership and management in the wake of the deaths of 14 SANDF troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“President Ramaphosa needs to send a strong message about the future of the nation’s armed forces, generally, and the mission to the DRC as it relates to underfunding, corruption and mismanagement.”
