Updated | By Eva Chipa
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) says some roads will be closed in the vicinity of the Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD), where a Public Safety Prayer Day will be held on Thursday morning.

“City of Johannesburg Mayor, Mpho Phalatse and the MMC for Public Safety David Tembe will be hosting the Public Safety Prayer Day at The Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin on Plein and Wanderers Street in the Johannesburg CBD,” says JMPD’s spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
The roads around the Cathedral will be blocked off to traffic, due to the large number of Public Safety officials expected to attend the gathering.
“Affected roads include Plein Street between Eloff and Wanderers Street, and Wanderers Street between Plein and Noord Street.”

Fihla adds that JMPD officers will be present to control and divert traffic.
“Motorists are advised to avoid the mentioned roads and to use alternative routes, but everyone attending the Prayer Day will be allowed to pass through the road closures.”
