Roads affected by Satawu Jo'burg march Tuesday

Members of Satawu will gather at the Pieter Roos Park along Empire road in Parktown. The following streets will be affected between 10am and 2pm:

 

- Joubert street

- De Korte street 

- Biccard street  

- Juta street

- De Beer street

- Smit street

- Simmonds street

- Fox street

- Rissik street 

 

"There will be officers during the march who will be directing traffic," said Johannesburg Metro Police spokesman, Wayne Minnaar. Satawu says Tuesday's march will be a "small" protest, with a province wide larger protest planned for this coming Friday. 

On Monday Satawu said it would stick to its wage demand for bus drivers. "We remain steadfast in our demand for a double-digit increase of 13 percent for our members... .We are not going to back down," union spokesman Vincent Masoga said. Unions are demanding a 13% wage increase, down from the original 18% and allowances for housing, night shifts and long-distance journeys. The strike, which was affecting commuters countrywide, entered its third week last Friday.
