Robbery sees City Power review security at substations
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Johannesburg City Power will embark on a process of reviewing security measures at all its electricity substations.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says this follows a robbery at a substation, which saw a security officer shot in the neck.
Four others were assaulted during the incident.
The incident happened on Wednesday during load shedding.
Mangena says the officers were confronted by three suspects who had jumped the perimeter fence of the substation to gain access.
"The security officers, employed by Mafoko Security, were posted for the night shift on Wednesday at Prospect substation, near City Deep.
"The four were held up at gun point and assaulted before being robbed of their cell phones and pocket money."
One of the security officers is in a critical condition in hospital.
The suspects were disturbed by two City Power operators who went to the substation to restore power after load shedding.
"The police were called to the scene and a case was opened at Cleveland Police Station," Mangena adds.
