Robinson landfill fire still not fully extinguished - Pikitup

A fire that has been blazing at the Robinson landfill site in Johannesburg since last week has still not been completely extinguished.
The fire broke out last Thursday.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Pikitup spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi says 80% of the fire has been extinguished.
“The team has managed to put out the open flames and they are now dealing with putting out the smoke by wetting the soil and placing heaps of soil over the surface. This approach seems to be working because there are no open flames on the site anymore except for smoke.”
