Roger Jardine to launch new political movement

Helen Suzman Foundation executive director Nicole Fritz has resigned from the civil society organisation to join a new political party ahead of the 2024 elections.
The movement, which will be launched on Sunday, will be led by businessman and anti-apartheid activist Roger Jardine, who himself recently resigned as the chairperson of FirstRand Group.
Earlier this week, the Sunday Times reported that Jardine met senior leaders from the DA, including leader John Steenhuisen and Federal Council chairperson Helen Zille, to discuss the possibility of being the Multi-Party Charter's presidential candidate.
The charter was formed by seven political parties, including the DA, IFP and ActionSA, earlier his year.
But as it has now emerged that Jardine will start his own party.
This was confirmed by Fritz who has since resigned from her role at the Helen Suzman Foundation to join the new party.
"I am going to be joining a new movement headed by Jardine – ‘Change. Now’," Fritz said on Friday.
She confirmed that there was no bad blood between her and the foundation.
"At this critical time in our democracy, we appreciate Nicole’s wish to contribute to South African politics. At the same time, a fundamental feature of the HSF is that we are a non-party political organisation.
“We hold ourselves and our office-bearers to this standard so that we can defend the constitution without fear or favour.
“We will begin our search for a new Executive Director early in the new year. In the interim, the HSF will be led by Naseema Fakir as acting executive director," said Rajab.
