Roodepoort in the dark after transformers gutted by fire
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
A fire that gutted two transformers in the early hours of Saturday left parts of Roodepoort in the dark.
The transformers burned down after midnight resulting in a total loss of supply.
Affected areas include Robertsville, Wipsey Dip, Putcoton and Stormhill.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says technicians are at the scene.
“All the teams are on-site to start with investigations into the cause of the fire, assess the extent of the damage and the cost of the damage. Mob up operations will also start once the heat in the substation cools down and it's safe to work.”
Mangena says the city can’t determine when the work will be completed.
“We are also looking at alternatives available on the table including the possibility of back feeding the customers while repair work on the damaged infrastructure continues.”
