Residents took to the streets on Friday after a woman was killed by an stray bullet outside the Rahimsa Moosa Hospital. Her 10-year-old daughter was also wounded during the incident.
Protesters have blamed the latest killing to the escalating gang turf war in the area.
Police spokesperson Kay Makhubela says protesters threw a petrol bomb at a Nyala.
"Police are pushing them away by using rubber bullets and tear gas," says Makhubela.
Makhubela says no arrests have been made and police are monitoring the situation.
