Russian tourist drowns at Durban beach

A 47-year-old man drowned at Durban View Park in Umhlanga on Thursday.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst says an aerial search was conducted after they received reports of the drowning.
Herbst says the man’s wife was sitting on the beach while he went for a swim.
“The man was swimming in a shore break at an unprotected beach when a wave washed him out. The man was located and brought to shore by kite surfers, however, he was found unresponsive with a very faint heartbeat”.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the tourist for over 20 minutes, however, “he could not be revived”.
"Despite best efforts, the man's condition rapidly deteriorated, and he was sadly declared deceased on the scene.”
Herbst says the patient will have to go for a post-mortem and all the legal paperwork completed before his body can be repatriated to Russia.
