The sixth democratic elections in 25 years ago has been described as one of the most pivotal following years of lagging economic growth and corruption scandals.

Early results will emerge early Thursday morning while the new administration is expected to be known on Saturday.

A grandmother from Heuweloord in Centurion says she's voting to secure a good future for her grandchildren.

"I hope my vote will make a difference. I am doing this the little ones and my granddaughter," she said in Afrikaans.

Meanwhile, a young person from Midrand said she wasn't particular excited about voting but that she will make her mark because she hopes it will bring about change.

"More jobs for the youth, better education. So that the kids can go to school and there's money for them, for NSFAS especially, so that they are not on the streets."

Another young man declared himself confident in the party he will be voting for.

Another voter said she's voting to ensure her voice is heard.
