Nelson Mandela International Day

The Nelson Mandela International Day is celebrated worldwide each year on 18 July. This initiative started in 2008 on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

As Nelson Mandela has devoted 67 years of his life in the service of justice, on that day he called on each and every one of us to devote 67 minutes of our time to a selfless action in the service of the community. This call was relayed by the United Nations in November 2009 in a resolution that officially designated 18 July as Nelson Mandela International Day (A/RES/64/13).
