SA Covid-19 death toll passes 75 000 mark

The Covid-19 death toll in South Africa has passed the 75 000 mark on Monday evening after 199 fatalities were reported.
The country’s death toll now stands at 75 012.
When it comes to the number of new infections, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 6 787 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
The institute says the increase represents a 21.7% positivity rate.
The latest statistics show that KwaZulu-Natal has now also overtaken Gauteng with a higher number of daily infections.
The Western Cape still leads with the majority of daily new cases.
The province recorded 1 967 new cases on Monday evening, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 1 442 cases and Gauteng recorded 1 039 cases.
There has been an increase of 241 hospital admissions over the past 24 hours.
A total of 14 820 people are currently admitted in both private and public hospitals.
On the vaccine front, 16 104 vaccines were administered on the public holiday of National Women’s Day on Monday.
