Hanekom amid accusations that he is one of the leaders of a jihadist group in northern Mozambique.
The group is facing charges of murder and crimes against the state, according to reports.
Hanekom, together with two Tanzanians, were arrested in August.
Sisulu says the South African ambassador is in touch with Hanekom.
“He has communicated both with the family and ourselves where he has been held and has made himself available to interact with Mr Hanekom so that we can give all the necessary consoles support to him,” says Sisulu.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to hold bilateral talks with Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi on Monday.
Both presidents are expected to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues of common interest.
Presidential spokesperson, Khusela Diko, could not confirm if Ramaphosa would discuss the Hanekom matter.
