SA now has just over 20-thousand active cases of Covid-19

South currently has 20 912 active cases of coronavirus, with a recovery rate remaining firm at 95%.

It comes as the country waits for President Cyril Ramaphosa to deliver the nation about the state of lockdown ahead of the Easter holiday and two other long weekends and school holidays in April.

Government and experts have expressed their concern that it could lead to a possible third wave, should there be any super spreader events.

The latest report released by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Friday evening shows that 1 516 new cases were reported during the latest 24-hor period.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases for South Africa is 1 543 079.

A further  67 Covid-19 related deaths were confirmed.

“Eastern Cape 3, Free State 6, Gauteng 23, Kwa-Zulu Natal 9, Limpopo 17, Mpumalanga 0, North West 5, Northern Cape 1 and Western Cape 3 which brings the total to 52 602 deaths,” reads the report.

When it comes to government’s vaccination rollout, the total number of health workers who have so far received the Johnson & Johnson jab under the Sisonke Protocol, stands at 231 002.
