SA records over 17 000 new Covid-19 cases

The Department of Health says 17 710 Covid-19 cases have been identified since its last daily report.
This is the highest daily number yet.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says the positivity rate of 33% is an indicator of the rapid spread evident during the second wave of infections.
“As of today the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases identified is 1 039 161 with 17 710 (positivity rate 33%) cases identified since the last report,” he said in his daily statement on Wednesday.
“Our recoveries currently stand at 867 597. This represents a recovery rate of 83%.”
The number of active cases stands at 145 531.
Mkhize says 465 more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in the 24-hour period, taking the total to 28 033.
