SA saddened by the passing of Gugu Zulu

South Africans have taken to Twitter after the sudden passing of racing car driver Gugu Zulu.

Zulu passed away on Monday morning while summiting Kilimanjaro as part of the Trek4Mandela.

According to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Gugu - who was with his wife Letshego - experienced problems breathing.

Bikers for Mandela Day convener Zelda la Grange said they heard of Zulu's passing while travelling to Mamelodi for the last 67 minute project of this year's trip.

"We are all in shock and saddened. Both Gugu and Letshego were on Bikers for Mandela Day in 2011, so it's like losing a friend. We are all just trying now to gather our thoughts. It's a big shock to us," La Grange said.

Former SA Sevens player, Mac Masina said Zulu needs to be remembered on this day.

"I've known him since my early 20s where I was still an up-and-coming rugby guy and he was still a young up-and-coming SA driver...so I kind of knew him in the olden days. A very good gentlemen, he used to do things full-on," Masina said.
