SA sees Covid-19 cases increase by more than 1800

South Africa has recorded 1 863 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours leading up to Wednesday evening.

This brings the total of infections to 719 714.


Gauteng continues to account for the highest number of the country's cases - at 31,7%, followed by KwaZuluNatal at 17%.


According to the latest statistics released by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, the country has recorded 58 new Covid-19 related deaths.


The total number of Covid-19 related deaths across South Africa has increased to 19 111.


“18 from Eastern Cape, 2 from Gauteng, 3 from the Free State, 12 from KwaZulu-Natal, 7 from Limpopo, 6 from Northern Cape and 10 from Western Cape.


"Of the 58 deaths reported today, 16 were reported to have occurred in the past 24-48 hours: 1 from the Free State 2 from Eastern Cape, 2 from Gauteng, 2 from KwaZulu-Natal, 2 from Limpopo and 7 in the Western Cape," reads the statement by Mkhize.


The recovery rate stands at 90%
