South Africa has recorded 130 Covid-19 related deaths, a significant increase over the past couple of weeks and since the country emerged from the second wave.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says some provinces have been conducting data verification at facilities and this lead to the increase in reported fatalities.
These provinces audited the data to ensure that all COVID-19 related deaths have been reported.
“Today, 130 deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 11, Free State 7, Gauteng 11, KwaZulu Natal 5, Limpopo 5, Mpumalanga 3, North West 34, Northern Cape 13 and Western Cape 41,” reads the statement by Mkhize.
This brings the country’s total Covid-19 related deaths to 53 887.
A total of 853 new Covid-19 cases have been reported over the past 24 hours up to Tuesday evening, bringing the country’s Covid-19 cases to 1 568 366.
The county’s recovery rate stands firm at 95%.
