SA Weather Service warns of 'bitterly cold' conditions

The South African Weather Service has warned that temperatures will start plummeting across large parts of the country from Thursday.
The cold snap will include possible disruptive snowfall in parts of the Eastern Cape and southern Drakensberg.
The Weather Service says the heavy snow in the Drakensberg could also lead to the closure of some road networks connecting communities in the area.
Affected areas include Molteno, Barkley East, Lady Grey and Matatiele.
“Disruptive rain in places has already impacted some communities along the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal and the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape on Tuesday. These rainy conditions are likely to continue on and off into Wednesday.
“Moreover, wet, cold to very cold conditions are expected to spread to the central provinces of the country, with a risk of storms which may produce heavy downpours, excessive lighting and large amounts of small hail,” the SAWS said.
Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of only 15 degrees Celsius on Friday, with Pretoria slightly warmer at 16 degrees.
