SA in worse situation than under Zuma - Malema

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema claims the country has gone backwards under President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He believes South Africa is in a worse position than it was when former president Jacob Zuma was head of state.

Malema addressed the media at the party's headquarters on Thursday.

"Why would a president leave his country  to the G7 when there is no electricity? He's leaving his country in darkness,” Malema said.

"You want to claim to have a country when you left it in darkness. A  country with such high levels of unemployment, high levels of poverty, high levels of inequality, high levels of landlessness.

"My advice to Cyril is stay at home, you're useless and you're going to be useless at G7 when you can't even get your house in order here.

"We are in a mess, the black elite that benefits from corrupt white capital is all over defending this mess. We are in a mess, we are in a worse situation than what we were in during Zuma by the way. We are worse than that time, to pretend like we are in a better position is self defeating attitude. We must acknowledge that under Cyril we are in a mess."

The country is again in the midst of rolling blackouts as Eskom struggles to keep the lights on due to insufficient generation capacity.

On Wednesday, Eskom was forced to implement stage 4 load shedding from 14:00 until 22:00.

The power utility has since downgraded to stage 3 on Thursday, with stage two expected to kick in from Thursday at 22:00.
