SAA celebrates 90 years amid financial woes

South African Airways celebrated 90 years in aviation this weekend regardless of the company’s financial woes.
The celebration took place in Johannesburg on Saturday.
It reviewed some of the hiccups faced by SAA along the years.
The company was placed under business rescue in December 2019.
Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan said their main goal is to not rely on the government for financial assistance.
"My colleague in the Treasury is never going to ask you for money, we'll generate our own money, which means how you spend money within SAA has to be done very carefully.
"If there are still leakages, as there may well be as we live in a society where people are looking for opportunities without working hard and making a couple of million for themselves, then ensure that those leaks are taken for in one way or another."
As a result of all the financial troubles SAA faces, the company has considered selling majority of its share to Takatso Aviation. However, the deal has not been concluded.
