Retrenchments at SAA were scheduled to begin last week, after the company issued employees with section 189 earlier this month.

This would see at least 900 employees lose their jobs as the airline struggles with debts of R9.2 billion.

NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi Majola told workers they can take a deep breath - for now.

Services at SAA have resumed immediately after the eight day strike was called off on Friday.

The airline made a loss of at R200 million as a result of the strike action.
