The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC] has slammed claims of unfair dismissal by former chief operating officer Chris Maroleng as "unfounded and defamatory".
Maroleng was fired in April last year after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of breaching his fiduciary duties.
"The SABC refutes the unfounded and defamatory allegations made by Mr Maroleng in his recent interviews on several media platforms and in other reports related to his dismissal," says SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo.
The public broadcaster further slammed Maroleng's claims that the SABC board was to blame for his dismissal.
"This clearly demonstrates his unwillingness to assume responsibility for his own serious misconduct," adds Seapolelo.
Maroleng has filed an application with the Labour Court in Johannesburg, demanding that the SABC pay him R16 million for the remainder of his four year contract.
