SABC suspends Group CEO
Updated | By ANA
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on Wednesday announced it had suspended its group chief executive, Frans Matlala.
“The Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), today suspended with immediate effect the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mr Frans Matlala pending an investigation,” said SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.
Kganyago said the organisation was currently not willing to comment further.
He added that the group executive of news and current affairs, Jimi Matthews, would serve as acting GCEO.
Matlala’s suspension comes less than a month after the SABC’s chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng took leave of absence. Motsoeneng was found by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to have misrepresented his qualifications and irregularly increased his salary. He is facing a disciplinary process after the Democratic Alliance went to court to force the SABC to implement the remedial action set out by Madonsela. - ANA
