SACAI vows to address students, parents' grievances

The South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI)  has called on parents who are unhappy with the institute's matric results to report their queries.

This follows a petition signed by more than a thousand students and parents, calling for an investigation into SACAI's 2023 matric results, markers, marking and the capturing process.

Matric candidates who wrote their 2023 examinations, administered by the institute, achieved a pass rate of 72%.

These exams were SACAI's first exams as a fully accredited private assessment body.

Students and their parents are concerned about the poor grades obtained by most students who took the SACAI exams.

The Institute's CEO, Keith Maseko, says they are working around the clock to address these grievances.

"Usually, when the parents follow the official channel, they get to understand the final mark allocated to the pupil. This comes after the reviewing of scripts on how the child performed during exams.

"We are currently speaking to the concerned parents through their various representatives who officially started this particular petition and there has been a meeting conducted today in terms of paving the way forward.

"We look forward to making sure that we deal with every concern that comes to SACAI in the correct way.

"We will also make sure that parents and candidates affected get the official mark that they deserve and make them understand why have achieved these particular marks," he said.

SACAI caters for candidates who study online and through distance education learning.

The institute reportedly had over five thousand students sitting for texams last year.
