SACCA fuming over Mango license suspension
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
The South Africa Cabin Crew Association has branded as hypocritical the decision to suspend the licence of low-cost airline Mango.
The airline has been in business rescue since July 2021.
The Air Services Licensing Council has suspended Mango’s licences due to the fact that it has not operated for an uninterrupted period exceeding 12 months.
The association's president, Zazi Nsibanyoni-Mugambi, believes the move is suspicious as the airline is on the brink of taking to the skies again.
“We believe it a bit hypocritical because SAA was grounded for far longer than 12 months and they have only lost their license recently. Why take this action with Mango while it on the brink of finalising the deal with the new bidder?
“We think it is ludicrous, they could have easily given Mango two to three months, not a 12 months suspension. It is strange and we wonder whose interest they are acting on.”
Nsibanyoni-Mugambi says they are busy consulting ahead of a possible appeal.
“We are still consulting on appealing the suspension, but I think the first point of call is to the Department of Transport to intervene. If not, then we will appeal.”
